Kid’s story

Exam Day

Abhinav was a smart boy. He came from a village in India. His parents still lived in the village. Abhinav moved to the city to study. In the city, he stayed at his uncle’s house.

One morning, Abhinav was still sleeping when his father called. “Abhinav, have you reached school? Today is your maths exam right?”

Abhinav yawned and said, “Yes Papa, I am leaving now.

But when he looked at the clock, it was already 8:30! The exam had started at 8:00. He jumped out of bed, quickly got ready, and ran to school.

At the gate, Abhinav pleaded with the guard, “Uncle, please let me in. Today is my first paper.”

The guard called the office and finally said, “Go inside quickly.”

Abhinav rushed to the exam hall. The teacher stopped him. “Why are you so late? What is your name?”

“Ma’am, I am Abhinav Kumar. I am sorry, I got late today.”

The teacher handed him a note and said, “Get this signed by the headmistress. Without her permission, you cannot write the exam.”

Abhinav hurried to Mrs. Chatterjee, the headmistress. He explained, “Ma’am, I studied till 3 a.m last night. My alarm did not ring in the morning.”

Mrs. Chatterjee smiled kindly and said, “Rest is just as important as hard work when preparing for success. Now go and finish your paper.

Abhinav returned and started writing. But he was nervous. His hands were shaking. He made mistakes again and again. He had also forgotten his geometry box. Still, he tried his best and wrote what he could.

After the exam, Abhinav walked home, thinking deeply. He promised himself: “I will never stay awake all night before an exam. Hard work is not enough. Discipline and rest are also important.”

Ten Years Later …

Ten years passed, and Abhinav became an IAS officer. He returned to his old school as the chief guest for the annual day celebration.

Mrs. Chatterjee, now the principal, welcomed him warmly with a bouquet.

The speaker announced at the stage, “We welcome our chief guest, Mr. Abhinav Kumar.”

The hall filled with claps. Abhinav had learned his lesson well and achieved success.

Moral of the Story: Hard work is important, but discipline matters too.
